When you’re first starting out, especially with a blog, it can be very difficult to find your audience. It can feel like you’re writing to no one – and sometimes you might be. So how do you go from writing to no one, to having a legitimate following?

I read an article a few days ago explaining a really great strategy for getting started.

Write a list of 10 friends who would be interested in what you’re writing about. Then begin your writing process with them in mind. What would they be interested in? What advice do they need to hear? Then send them through some of your articles and ask for feedback, as well as asking for topic suggestions – what advice do they need?

Focus on these 10 people until you feel like you know them, and are helping them. Then find 10 new people.
