Does Meta Charge GST on Ads? Here's the Simple Answer

If you've ever stared at a Meta invoice wondering whether you should be paying GST on your ad spend, you're not alone. It's one of those things that sounds complicated but really isn't. Here's everything you need to know.

The Short Answer

• GST registered with an ABN? Meta will not charge you GST.

• Not GST registered? Meta will add GST on top of your ad spend.

That's it. Simple.

If You're GST Registered

As long as you've supplied Meta with your ABN, you won't be charged GST on your advertising. Your ABN tells Meta that you're a GST-registered business using the platform for business purposes, so the charge doesn't apply.

Important: You'll need to add your ABN to each ad account separately, as it doesn't carry across accounts automatically.

How to add your ABN to Meta Ads Manager

1. Go to Ads Manager and open your Ad Account Settings

2. Find the ABN field and enter your ABN

3. Click Save Changes

Once that's done, you won't be charged GST going forward.

If You're Not GST Registered

If your business isn't registered for GST, Meta will add GST on top of whatever you spend on ads. So a $500 ad spend becomes $550 on your invoice. This is consistent with Australian tax law, which requires overseas digital platforms to collect and remit GST on sales to Australian consumers who aren't GST registered.

A Note on Your Invoices

You can review your charges any time in the Billing section of Meta Ads Manager. Your receipts will itemise your ad spend and any GST charged separately, so it's easy to see exactly what you've paid.
