How to Instantly Boost Your AOV Without Changing Your Ads

Let's talk about one of my favourite little levers: the humble multi-buy offer.

I was chatting with a client recently who sells lower-priced items, hats in this case, and we were brainstorming how to get more out of each customer without overhauling their entire ad strategy. Because let's be real, sometimes it's not the ads. It's the cart.

Here's the thing: if you're selling a $30 product, that customer might be hovering around a $30 average order value. Not exactly champagne-popping numbers. But what if we gave them a reason to throw another one in the cart?

Something like:

  • 1 for full price

  • 2 for a little discount

  • 3 for a little more

It doesn't have to be a fire sale. We're not slashing margins or throwing a "50% off everything" panic party. We're just giving people a nudge, especially when your product is fun, gifty, or a bit of a novelty. Like hats for the whole pickleball team. (Yes, pickleball. It's having a moment.)

A multi-buy offer lets people justify buying "just one more" for a friend, or a backup, or because they couldn't choose a colour. And suddenly your $30 order becomes a $60 to $70 order. Same customer. Same ad cost. Much happier ROAS.

It's small changes like this that can move the needle without burning everything down and starting over. Sometimes the magic isn't in the campaign. It's on the product page, or the cart, or that little nudge that makes someone think "Oh, I might as well."

So if you're running ads to lower-value products and wondering why it's tough to scale, try this: ask yourself "How can I get them to add just one more thing?"
